Description

Gold Dust Dracaena has long stretches of bare stem, punctuated at intervals by whorls of two to five short, leaf-shaped leaves. It does bear a superficial resemblance to a thin ornamental bamboo

The leaves are covered in yellow dots, which turn white with age, giving the plant its common name, the "gold-dust plant" or "gold-dust dracaena." Its leaves are a slender oval shape, up to about 20 cm in length and mostly medium to dark green, quite subtly spotted in yellowish green or chartreuse. Some leaves on the plant are usually unspotted. The leaf spots fade to a yellowish lemon as the leaves age.

Punctulata puts out lots of bamboo-like canes, is very hardy, and accepts both heavy pruning and neglect.

The plant produces clusters, 7-8 cm long, of whitish flowers that are sweetly scented in the late evenings. These are followed by small roundish berries in a brilliant reddish orange that contrast sharply with the foliage colour.

Environment

Japanese Bamboo will put up with moderate indirect light but would really prefer bright indirect, or even some filtered sun. Insufficient light will reduce the number and color-contrast of the spots.

D.Surculosa seems to prefer to be slightly wetter than other Dracaenas, but they also need a good, well-draining soil mix that permits air to reach the roots.

When these plants are grown in containers indoors or on patios and decks, an occasional shower is needed to remove dust from the foliage, and a trim along old stems will rejuvenate growth. Some gardeners prune the canes at various heights, and new foliage will emerge at the various levels to make the plant even more interesting. The plant likes to be a little pot-bound, so it should not be repotted in too large a container.

Basic houseplant fertilizer at quarter-strength with every watering should be fine.

Landscape Uses

Ornamental foliage, Green wall

Note

The plant and its fruits are poisonous to many animals, including cats and dogs.

This is one “under the radar” gem!!
Size: Large, Color: Coral
This is one “under the radar” gem!! Very strong internal squeaker and way tougher than it looks. My big 125lb Shepard-Husky mix gave it heck, then made it his new buddy. He’ll occasionally give it the business but on the whole, it’s surprisingly tough and my big boy loves it. Nice price!!

Cute but small
Size: Large, Color: Skinny Green
Cute stuffy and has not yet ripped. While my dogs plays with it, the toy is a bit small for him. For reference he is 120lbs.

Powerful little ball
The ball is well designed, made, and is durable. It is functional and easy to turn on. It has a good amount of power and movement to capture my pets attention. It moves easily on wooden, laminated, and carpeted floors. The material is hard which makes it not break down easily when bitten or chewed. The colors are appealing and attractive.

Too big and heavy for my dog. Spins more often than it rolls. Good material.
The first time we used this, which honestly took a bit too long to figure out, our dog was excited and immediately kicked it under the couch. I guess that makes sense, you really have no idea where this thing is going to end up. I did fish it out after a bit, and it needed a charge. After reassembly, the ball would only spin in circles until it was hit. That's probably just as well, as it was still engaging and less likely to roll away. The issue is this is large and heavy, larger than a tennis ball and heavier than it looks. That's fine for big dogs, but it isn't great for small dogs like Boston terriers or frenchies, and definitely useless for toy breeds. My dog was able to lift it with the module removed, and that's how he prefers it now. The outer TPU layer is strong and grippy, so it's not a total waste. It looks a little rougher than the pictures appear but my dog doesn't mind. I get it... I"ve worked with TPU before and it's a temperamental material. The price is quite low, but not if you aren't getting use out of the mechanical aspect. This is a good value for the right dog: a medium dog with a snout - maybe a sheltie; definitely a golden. For others, a smaller version would be nice.

Hands free toy!!!
This is one of my dogs absolute favorite toys. I have a German shepherd husky mix that is notorious for destroying his toys. This one has stood the test !!! Have had it for about a month and we have played rough with it. The battery lasts forever. It’s such an easy toy too. Stuck under the couch?? It’ll eventually bounce its way out. Dog nudging and you need some space, pop this this on and it’s like a magic trick lol. My dog gets so excited when I pick it up because he knows I’ll turn it on. Sometimes, he will bounce it hoping it will turn on lol. Stronglyyyyyyy recommend.
